In late August, Rocknoll broke ground on a special wind turbine installation for one of its newest customers. Connector Manufacturing Company of Hamilton, Ohio was an excellent fit for a Bergey Excel 10kw Wind Turbine since CMC (Connector Manufacturing Company) manufacturers electrical connector components used in many wind turbines.
When up and spinning, the Bergey Wind Turbine will save approximately $6K to 7K annually. While the installation will supply only a portion of electric to CMC’s manufacturing plant, the installation shows the company’s support and commitment to renewable energy technologies.
Wind energy is in its infancy stages (2% worldwide) and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 15.7% over the next few years. Currently, federal grants will cover up to 30% of the costs for qualified wind turbine installations. The funds are wired directly into the purchaser’s bank account. Going forward in 2011, the refund of money will become a tax credit instead of cash. Ohio offers a 40% rebate and many other states also support wind power development with financial incentives. Essentially an installation in Ohio may qualify for up to 70% savings utilizing both federal and state incentives.
CMC is only one of several companies that Rocknoll is providing wind turbines for and expects the demand to increase even further. “We are seeing an uptick in requests for information on wind turbines,” states Rocknoll Energy Systems’ CEO Jim Yockey. “Companies and individuals are looking at the real cost of installation amortized over the life of the equipment and the numbers become very competitive over time.”

GEO (Green Energy Ohio) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmentally and economically sustainable energy polices and practices in Ohio. GEO is the Ohio Chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and is active in promoting all types of renewable energy resources such as wind, hydro and biomass.
