Wood Pellets
Wood pellets are a renewable resource, made of sawdust from lumber production and other wood remnants. Pellets are commonly used as supplemental heating in addition to your home's furnace, although they can be used to heat a whole house. Fireplace inserts and freestanding stoves frequently burn pellets, which are fed into the stove automatically. Pellets burn cleaner and result in no creosote buildup, resulting in a much safer fuel source. Pellet stoves require electricity to run, however, backup batteries can be purchased to run the stoves during power outages. Pellet stoves typically cost more than wood burning stoves. |
